On Sunday April 14, from 5:00-9:00pm West Milford High School hosted their annual Cablethon to raise money for project graduation.
The Cablethon is a live television event hosted for the benefit of graduating seniors. The goal of the night is to raise as much money as possible for Project Graduation. Project Graduation is directly after the students graduate on June 25. It was an event created a few years back to make sure the students are safe after graduation. Even though it’s an exciting time, students still choose to make the wrong choices such as drinking and driving. That’s the reason why project graduation was created, to make sure that everyone is safe directly after graduation and spend one more night together as a class before everyone goes their separate ways.
The Cablethon wouldn’t happen without the help of Mr. Padilla, the man who makes everything possible and organizes everything. He devotes so much of his time to make sure that every year is successful. The Cablethon takes place in the cafeteria and takes about a day to set up. This year was the first year people were given the opportunity to watch the Cablethon online.
The students also devote a lot of their time to making this event possible. Every hour, there was a different host. The hosts were Andrew Vigorita, Pamela Vanness, Michael Tyler, Rachel Damelio, Derek Bull, Christina Serven, Jack Romano and Katie Shiller. To switch it up, each of the different hosts had a theme of a different season. Throughout the night, student guests performed and videos, that were made in the TV Science class, taught by Mr. Padilla were played.
Throughout the five hours, the phones were constantly ringing with pledges and shout outs dedicated to the senior class. Anyone could donate any amount they wanted to help raise money for the event.
This year, Project Graduation will be held at New Yorks Sports Club in Ramsey. The class of 2013 was lucky enough to raise over $15,000! Congrats to the class of 2013 and have a great time at Project Graduation!
