On Feb. 3, 2013 the Baltimore Ravens took home the Lombardi trophy after beating the San Francisco 49ers 34-31. The Ravens were able to remain in the lead at the end of each quarter. However, the 49ers did not give up. Although they ended the second half 15 points behind the Ravens, the 49ers were able to come within 3 points of the Ravens by the end of the game.
This year’s halftime show is one to remember. Beyonce did a remarkable job singing a medley of her famous tunes such as “Love on Top,” “Single Ladies,” and “Halo.” One of the surprises was when Beyonce was accompanied by her former Destiny’s Child members, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, to sing some of their greatest hits. For months there had been rumors that the trio would perform together at the Super Bowl, but nothing had been confirmed. This performance has many Destiny’s Child fans wondering if the group will come out with new material soon.
One event at this year’s Super Bowl which ironically may shine in everyone’s mind is in the third quarter power outage. While some may joke and say the power failure was caused by Beyonce’s halftime performance, the source of the power outage has been confirmed. According to www.nationalfootballpost.com, the lights of the football stadium went out due to a faulty electrical relay device. President and chief executive officer of Entergy New Orleans stated, “While some further analysis remains, we believe we have identified and remedied the cause of the power outage and regret the interruption that occurred during what was a showcase event for the city and state.”
But who could forget the commercials? One thing that always stands out in everybody’s mind are the funny commercials broadcasted throughout the game. Often it seems that the debate of which commercial was the funniest takes precedence over the actual football game. This year the commercials ranged from a Doritos tea party to a Samsung commercial starring Paul Rudd and Seth Rogen. No matter which commercial was ranked #1 in your mind, it seems that the Super Bowl is one of the rare times people don’t reach for the remote when their program goes on break.
This game will also go down in history as the first Super Bowl where brothers were pitted against one another as head coaches – a family feud at its best. In fact, John and Jim Harbaugh still have yet to speak to one another since the final Super Bowl handshake.
Sibling rivalries aside, this Super Bowl was a nail-biter. Both teams put up a great fight right up to the final minutes. Whether you watched the football game this year because your favorite team was in it or because you simply love the game, it is safe to say that Super Bowl XLVII was a game to remember.
