Just last year the Highlander Cove opened in the hallways of West Milford High School. The Highlander Cove is a store run by the Life Skills students atWestMilfordHigh Schooland is located in Room 100.

            Since last year the Highlander Cove has expanded its store. Not only does the shop sell gifts, cards, and other goodies which were sold last year, but the store now boasts school supplies for purchase. Need of a pen or notebook? You can now easily pick one up at the Highlander Cove. Drawstring bags are also available, perfect for carrying gym clothes, books, or other supplies throughout the school day.

            Not only is the Highlander Cove a great place to shop or  pick up a quick snack, but it also teaches the Life Skills students, who run the store, various useful skills. They learn how to use a cash-register, to set and maintain a budget, book keeping, accounting, and how to use Microsoft Excel for inventory. It also gives the students the opportunity to expand social skills through interaction with customers, while increasing their knowledge of technology. These skills which are learned through the participation in the Highlander Cove will be useful to the Life Skills students after graduation.

            The Highlander Cove offers an abundant list of gifts, school supplies, and various healthy snacks to their customers. The students who run the store experience the satisfaction of running their own business and learn many important life skills that will be useful to them after graduation. So, the next time you find yourself in need of a snack before your next class or you need to grab your friend a card to congratulate her for making the basketball team, stop by Room 100. The Highlander Cove continues to be a great, convenient shop for both faculty and students on the go.
