The employees of the West Milford High school and West Milford Township Public Schools decided to take part in a staff fundraiser, raising money for to support American service men. The fundraiser is called Jeans for Troops and is run through the G.I. Go Fund.
The idea for this fundraiser was posted on the state bulletin board so that all schools districts could participate in the fundraiser if they liked. The idea was then brought to Mr. Gorski and he presented it at a faculty meeting.
About seventy-five percent of the staff participated in this event and managed to raise a total of $295. The funds raised will be used to help thousands of returning New Jersey veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan transition back into normal lives. Some of the things the money will go towards for the troops are finding jobs, providing health care, going to college, and finding housing. The G.I. Go Fund also runs several other fundraisers to help the troops.
The Jeans for Troops fundraiser does not collect jeans, just funds. Teachers give a small donation (or large donation if they want) and get the opportunity to wear jeans to work. The teachers will be wearing these jeans on Wednesday, November 7, which is the week of Veterans Day.
