April 7th, 2012, the Highlander Band left West Milford en route for London England. They arrived at London Heathrow Airport at 2 in the Morning EST; 7 in the morning UTC. Jet lagged but excited, the band went through customs and security and they were on their way to explore London and its wonderful sites. “The purpose of the trip to England and Scotland was for the kids to experience another culture and do a concert tour of Great Britain,” says band director Dr. McLaughlin whose goal was to make sure everyone had a spectacular time and that they all returned home safe and sound.
Moving quickly from city to countryside and back again, this fast-paced tour was a constant learning experience. Visiting historical sites, eating the local food, or simply taking in the differences, every student gained an education. They also had the opportunity to give a little something back. Performing in century old churches, bowling green gardens, royal hospitals and a parade, the Highlander Band shared their talents with appreciative international audiences. From beginning to end, the trip was a success. For many students, the opportunity to visit and perform in places that one could hardly imagine was a life changing experience.
