After a long dry spell for Coldplay in the world, it is now, after a three year break, that a new album titled Mylo Xyloto has been released. Before you begin to ask what exactly Mylo Xyloto means, read a snippet of a New York Times interview (below) in which lead singer of Coldplay, Chris Martin explains the title.
“Music comes from a place we don’t know,” he said. “It sort of comes through the fingers and toes. So we came up with the idea of, what if you had musical digits, like xylo toes.” He shook his head, irritated that he gave up the secret so easily.
And what about “Mylo”
“It’s just a great name,” he said. “For anything.” (Via Chris Martin, & the New York Times)
Mylo Xyloto has been declared Coldplay’s most ambitious album yet, offering up dancing keyboards and high beats. The lyrics that will have you singing along while feeling the power Chris and his band put into the songs. The most played song of the album thus far is “Every Tear Drop Is a Waterfall.” This tune was inspired by 1970’s graffiti which became the backdrop of 1990’s raves. The video for this song includes over loads of rave paint and waves of teenagers drawn into a rave in the middle of the city streets. The video closes out in street tunnels lit by strobes, back lights, and glowing paint. The album is full of variety, moving from the upbeat to “Princess of China,” where Chris delves into a darker tone with songstress Rihanna. The song depicts a tale of loss, regret, and a thousand what if’s.
