First ever Battle of the Bands rocks the night away

On Friday, May 20th, the school held its first ever Battle of the Bands! It was headed by Mr. Gerold of the Special Education department. The event was created as a means to stir up the music community of West Milford, and it felt like it did just that. There were four bands that performed: The West Milford High School Jazz Band, Double Trouble, Stronger than Death, and Vengeance.
It was split into two sections, due to the short number of entrants and time. The four bands would each play twice for ten minutes. The event also held two prizes: first place would receive four hundred dollars, and second place would receive two hundred dollars.
All the bands were entertaining, and joined two different genres, each with its own flair. Vengeance showcases an older style of metal, compared to Stronger Than Death, a more modern death metal band. The WMHS Jazz band features jazz, and Double Trouble, a jazz/rock/blues blend. The night went well, and the crowd was very reactive to the performances.
With a decent turn out, good people, and love for music in the air, one couldn’t ask for a better experience. It is hoped that due to the success of this night, the school will continue to host these types of events. It is important to support local music, especially if fellow Highlanders are the ones making it. In first place at the Battle was, unsurprisingly, the WMHS Jazz Band. Second was nearly a tie between Stronger than Death and Vengeance, however, Stronger than Death were ultimately the second place winners. Remember to support local music and help to fuel the music scene.
