Cell phone connected to disappearance of teen boys being disputed

Two boys, Perry Cohen and Austin Stephanos, each fourteen years old, were seemingly lost at sea in June of 2015 .  Eight months later, on March 18, evidence was found that could help give clues as to the fate of the two boys. A Norwegian freighter discovered a boat off the coast of Bermuda that was identified as belonging to the boys. Upon further inspection, a fully intact iPhone was found in the boat, and it’s believed that this holds clues that would help understand exactly what happened with these young gentlemen. The iPhone was submitted to a third-party for investigation, but this action is being countered by Stephanos’s father, wherein he is demanding the phone be returned to their family. The mother of Perry Cohen is now filing a lawsuit against them, claiming it should stay with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for further investigation. Mr. Stephanos stated that he wants the iPhone and for the data on it not to be unlocked.  He feels, in light of the recent San Bernadino shooting and issue with the FBI, he doesn’t want the publicity to run rampant. He further states that he believes the iPhone is his lasting connection with his son.  Stephanos’s mother stated that any relevant information found on the phone will be given to the Cohen family. However, it will have to wait, because the phone must be fixed after eight months of submersion in the ocean. Later, an IT expert discovered that, sadly, the phone had not been backed up on the cloud. The last text sent from Cohen’s phone said, “Mom, it’s Perry.  I’ll text you in a little.  Love you.” The investigation ended, however, and the case closed, due to the lawsuit. Many are hopeful that the iPhone will be the key to unlocking the truth of what happened to the teenage boys.
