The English Department has partnered with the National Honors Society students in a win-win short-term project that offers NHS students an opportunity to serve the school community and to help organize English Department materials in the Book Room. For the past few weeks, NHS students have helped Mrs. Bongiorno and Mrs. LoRe sort, box, and in some cases, discard, outdated and badly worn books. They have boxed older books no longer in use for donation to two organizations that will put them in the hands of children who need them, but who may have limited access to print. They are also assisting with stamping, shelving and cataloging new book arrivals for quick and easy access for teachers, keeping those editions in good shape and prolonging the life of English Department materials. Students are also earning hours toward their National Honors Society volunteer hours requirement, making this work a benefit to everyone involved.
