After a long hard season, most people would love to be able to relax. However, Color Guard hangs up their jazz shoes and prepares for the upcoming indoor season. The Indoor Color Guard has just started and it was with great honor that Director and Coach, Peter Shaver, introduced his captains for the 2015 year which include senior Coral Koenig, junior Sophia Souran, and last but not least, junior Abby Kacmar. Indoor Color Guard is a co-ed sport as well as an art form involving stretching, stamina, and basic dance movements. The Indoor Color Guard is a defending silver medalist for the Musical Arts Competition as well finalists with 150 other high school from around the globe for the WGI Sport of the Arts Color Guard World Championship competition. All throughout the season these athletes must be at their top level performance, training constantly for their upcoming competitions.
This year the Color Guard chose the song “The House that Built Me” by Miranda Lambert. They also got new performance attire for all the members as well as new flags. The song is inspiring people to remember their roots and to be able to thank the people who allowed them to become who they truly are. The color guard has a couple of surprises this year and it is “going to be an amazing show with a lots excitement” said Sophia Souran.
All three captains this year are looking forward to their competitions and going to finals hopefully to win gold. Peter Shaver and the Indoor Color Guard would like to formally invite everyone to their preview show January 18th at the West Milford Township High School gym at 3pm. One of the captains Abby Kacmar reminds her fellow Highlanders to “Come out and support the fantastic Color Guard Team.”
