It was a beautiful day outside. The sun glistened off the pink strands in Bucky’s fur and reflected off the brass instruments the band members were playing. Cheers and calls of enthusiasm from the football turf field could be heard all the way in the classrooms in the high school the afternoon of October 10.
The fall pep rally was a huge success thanks to the hard work of the teachers and students involved in the planning and organization of the event. Although the games were abandoned for focus on the teams and their efforts throughout the fall sporting season, there was plenty of pep and exuberance left among our proud Highlander crowd. It was one of the first pep rallies to be brought back to the field and it felt good to be outside in the fresh air and sunshine. After an impressive rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” from our very own chorus, the classes sat (mostly) together and cheered for their own class years as well as all those on the fiel
d representing our Highlander teams.
There was a performance by the
marching band and color guard and a special guest appearance by our very own mascot, Buck. One of the most highly anticipated events was the revival of the Homecoming Court. It was exciting to see the class prince and princesses as well as the overall King and Queen coming down to the field to accept their sashes.
Maybe in the future the school and student council could expand upon that idea and have the evening gowns and fancy cars in their presentation of Homecoming Court like some other local schools have. Although some people just never seem to be pleased, overall, the pep rally was fun, it was exciting, and it helped students bond together in our Highlander spirit. That evening at the homecoming game, the stands were full and the turnout was awesome. Although we didn’t win the varsity game against PassaicValley that night, our Herd is growing strength and we are turning around some of the negativity that is prevalent in the halls and gaining more school spirit. We are here for four years; let’s make them the best they can be! Go Highlanders! Go black and gold! Go pep rallies
