The Girl’s Varsity Softball team has come a long way from the beginning of their season, finishing off the year with a record of 16 and 7. Starting off the year with three tough losses, it didn’t look like much was going to come out of the season. However, captains Victoria Torp, Meghan Szymansky, and Mackenzie Porch knew losing was not the Highlander way. After a 16-6 blowout of rivals Lakeland, the team was able to turn the season around walking away with a Big North Conference Championship, as well as a 2nd place finish in the Passaic County Tournament. Pitcher Victoria Torp is ranked as one of the best pitchers in North Jersey and finished the year with 152 strikeouts. The offense was a balanced attack up and down the batting order with big contributions from Taylor Messler, Bre Csakvary, Peyton Porch, and Jessica Utter. Coach Gwinnett was also named Big North Conference Coach of the Year. It was a memorable season for the team both on and off the field.
